El Coyote in Sonoma serves up a vibrant, no-frills Mexican dining experience that fits well with the laid-back pace of this wine country town. Located right on Broadway, it feels like a local favorite spot where the focus is clearly on straightforward, satisfying food rather than fanciful décor or formal dining. The atmosphere is casual and welcoming, making it a handy stop for anyone looking to grab a flavorful meal without too much fuss—whether you’re coming in after a day of tastings or just looking for a quick, hearty bite.

The menu emphasizes tacos of many varieties—from Mahi Mahi and shrimp to more traditional meats like pastor and carnitas—along with burritos, quesadillas, and sizable portions that earn mentions for their honest, generous size. Regulars appreciate the consistency and value here, with satisfying meals like the summer burrito and Quesadilla Supreme capturing the kind of straightforward, deeply satisfying Mexican fare that locals crave for lunch or dinner.

Service at El Coyote tends towards warm and friendly, with a local, unpretentious vibe that encourages both quick takeout and casual sit-down meals. It’s the kind of place where you might see delivery drivers grabbing a quick bite, alongside locals treating themselves after a day out. The portion sizes and menu variety suggest it’s ideal for someone pretty hungry or sharing with a group, while the added touches like Coca Mexicana and guacamole chips bring bits of authenticity that feel thoughtfully curated without being overly fancy.

If you’re visiting Sonoma and want a break from tasting rooms or upscale restaurants, this spot provides a grounded, reliable alternative. The lunch and early dinner hours will find this place most lively, and given the menu’s breadth and genuine flavor, it suits a wide range of diners—from families with kids to solo travelers or groups of friends looking for quality Mexican street food-style dishes.

Stopped by for late lunch after tour and tasting. The summer burrito was excellent! Very friendly service and quality ingredients. Would eat here again and again and again if I was a local.

The best food truck food in town. The tacos I had were tasty. El Coyote has become a foodie spot that locals and visitors enjoy. One of the best places for take out. Next time I go to El Coyote, I’m going to try the burrito.

Friends and I got a variety of foods here, including the nachos (which they liked), the veggie burrito (they liked), the bacon hot dog (they LOVED), and I got an XL al pastor burrito, which I liked a lot, and which tasted a lot like al pastor to me. I guess I came on a good day. Service was very friendly. There was a bit of seating, but not a whole lot since it's a food truck. The jalapeno was okay (maybe tasted a bit old), but the salsa was really good. For me, a guy who doesn't eat a TON, the XL burrito was more than enough to fill me up for the day, with extras to eat on the next day. I hope I'm in the area again so I can come back. If I went to high school in the area I'd probably have come here way too often... Not too much parking nearby btw. Either street parking, or do something at another establishment and eat here.

I'm finding more and more that these small food trucks have great food. The same quality you will find in a fancy restaurant but without the high price or fancy dining. I went with the chicken quesadilla and it was great. Friends went with tacos and a burrito and they also loved it. Stop here for a quick bite to go or stay and eat and the tables they have next to the truck.

Stopped in for a meal to take away and eat at home. Wanted something quick yet tasty, drove by and pulled in. We caught them just before closing time, and El Coyote hooked it up! They recommended food, loaded is up and we had a great meal to pair with our wines we smashed from the vineyard! The burrito was huge, the nachos were Cali influenced, and the fish tacos were on point. Would not hesitate if your looking for a quick bite, and their prices beat the going restaurant rates, good meal to take home!
